May is a busy month for many families! School is wrapping up, summer is about to bring its on own activities and routines, and the weather is usually in a perfect place. May is a full month this year for activities in the Sioux Falls Area as well! There are plenty of shows, activities, and events to enjoy as a family this month.

May in the Sioux Falls Area
Starting Off
The historic Howard Wood Relays will be on May 2nd and 3rd this year. It’s the 100th year of this competitive track meet! See the best track and field athletes in our Area at this event.
The Falls Park Farmers Market is open every Saturday from May-October from 8am-1pm. Enjoy the first Farmers Market of the season on May 3rd! After enjoying the Farmers Market, stroll over to Falls Park or check out the Stockyards!
The Homeschool Conference of South Dakota is May 2nd and 3rd at the Convention Center. If you are a homeschooling family or are interested in learning more about homeschool, this conference is a great resource.
Want to add some education into your May events? Join GFP biologists on May 6th at Good Earth State Park to observe and learn about bird banding.
Looking for some more learning opportunities! The Outdoor Campus Summer Classes Registration date for June classes is May. 7th. These classes are always free.
Mothers Day Weekend

The Avera Face Against Cancer Run/Walk in on May 10th. Participating in this amazing event supports patients at the Avera Cancer Institute here in Sioux Falls. Sign up to run, walk, or even to be a sideline supporter!
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Wells Fargo Cinco de Mayo Festival on May 10th at Falls Park. This free event will have great food, dance, art, children’s activities, and more.
The Good Earth State Park Summer Concert Series is kicking off their summer programming on May 11th and will be hosting Tom Watson. These concerts happen throughout the summer and are free (though a State Park Entrance is needed).
Second Half of the Month
On May 13th, get ready to head down to the Birdcage for the first Canaries home game of the season! Get ready for a summer full of great Baseball with our hometown team!
The Levitt at the Fall’s first summer show for the 2025 season is May 23rd! On Saturday, May 24th, the first family concert for the summer happens and features Divi Roxx Kids. Make sure to come say hi to ‘hood at this show! We are helping to sponsor this concert.
The Great Plain’s Zoo is kicking off summer fun with their Summer Celebration on May 24th. Head over to the zoo to enjoy summer!
Great Bear has some fun planned for summer this year. Chill At The Hill is starting May 28th. Each Wednesday night will feature live music and a food truck. May 28th will be featuring 605 Island Guy with Musical Guest: Tony DiPaolo
