About Us
The ‘hood Magazine has been around for over 14 years now, and parents in Sioux Falls and surrounding areas trust us. After all, we are the Sioux Empire’s Family Resource. But in those 14 years, much has changed. We’re printing 10,000 copies of each issue, and those are going home in backpacks around the area and available in the local stores and businesses.
Our print issues are still going strong and aren’t going away anytime soon, but our digital presence and reach has grown. Our website, social pages, and email blasts reach thousands.
So when you are looking for a way to reach families, parents, or mom’s and dad’s ages 25-50, The ‘hood Magazine has YOUR audience’s attention. This is why we enjoy partnering with you, because we want to let family’s know what is happening and available to them.
OUR TEAM
STEFF HOLTROP, President & Publisher
Steffanie Holtrop is the President/Publisher of the ‘hood Magazine. She started ‘hood over 14 years ago before she had her own little ones at home. Steff would have her niece and nephew visit for the summer and was always looking for things to take them to do. The start of ‘hood was created with the help of local moms and what they would like to see from a parenting resource for the area. As ‘hood has grown over the years, so has Steff’s family. She has been married to her high school sweetheart for 14 years (even though they have been together for 24 years), and they have Jaxson and Khloe. They have grown up being a part of the ‘hood family and could talk just as much about ‘hood as any other team member! One of Steff’s favorite things about bringing ‘hood to the Sioux Falls Area is being there for parents! We are all on this parenting journey together, and there are many stages and ages to it!
SARAH PARKER, EDITOR
Sarah Parker is the editor of ‘hood Magazine. She works with our print issues and creates online content for ‘hood. Sarah has three young children that keep her busy! She loves all things outdoors! In the summer, you can find her family camping, hiking, and taking in as many picnics as they can. Sarah grew up in Beresford and, after a decade away from the area, came back with her husband to raise their children in the Midwest. She lived in six different states during her decade away! Her favorite things to do in the Sioux Falls Area are enjoying the local parks and coffee shops.
ALLY CHASE, DESIGN & ART DIRECTOR
Ally is the Design & Art Director of the ‘hood Magazine and has been with our team since we began, over 14 years ago. Ally’s kiddos were 6 and 4 when we published our first issue of ‘hood magazine, in fact, they were our first cover models. As ‘hood has grown over the years, so has Ally’s family with her children now, 20, 18 and she gained a wonderful step-daugher who is 17. Ally and her husband, JR live with their 3 children in Missouri. Even though Ally currently resides out of the state, her heart remains in South Dakota with much of her family in the Sioux Falls area. She travels here frequently and is always excited to see the growth and new faces and places around Sioux Falls when she visits.
JACLYN SMALL, DIGITAL MEDIA DIRECTOR
SHELBI KIEHOLD, Client Relations
Shelbi Kielhold is the client coordinator for the ‘hood Magazine. She enjoys talking with clients about what they have to offer and how the ‘hood can help promote their business and events to the community. Shelbi has an almost one-year-old little girl and a Pomeranian with whom she enjoys spending her days. She loves going on walks, watching sports, golfing, and reading with her daughter. Shelbi grew up in Iowa and spent the last 10 years of her life in Lincoln, Nebraska, where she went to college and taught 5th grade. She recently moved to Sioux Falls, where she and her husband are looking forward to raising their family. Her favorite thing about Sioux Falls is trying all of the new restaurants and shops it has to offer!
JESSIE PAQUETTE, Calendar
Jessie Paquette is in charge of the calendar. She knows all the things going on around town and loves to attend as many events as possible. Jessie and her husband have five amazing children ranging in age from toddlers to teenagers. Between dance competitions and hockey games, she doesn’t have much free time, but she does love roaming the aisles in Target with a vanilla latte. She also loves being in downtown Sioux Falls, shopping with her girlfriends, or having date nights with her husband. Growing up in Luverne, MN, she would always come to Sioux Falls for the fun events and great restaurants. She loves that Sioux Falls has so much to offer everyone. There is always so much going on and so much to do.
LAURA KATTENBERG, Circulation
Laura Kattenberg handles the distribution of the ‘hood Magazine. She meets with delivery personnel to get the magazines and then delivers the magazines to different businesses and schools around the Sioux Empire. She also works with the local schools that send home magazines in backpacks! Laura and her husband Derek live on an acreage between Sioux Falls and Brandon, with three of their four children (ages 9-20) and their black lab, Harley. She enjoys reading, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite Sioux Falls Activity is the Fall Park Farmers Market.
