The Perfect Addition to Your Daughter’s Routine
The school year is in full swing, parents are focused on ensuring their children adjust smoothly to their new routines. Between managing homework, extracurricular activities, and social schedules, finding ways to enrich their daughter’s experience remains a priority. While sports, arts and various clubs are popular options, there is one organization that offers a distinctive blend of character-building, leadership development, and FUN: Girl Scouts.
Why Girls Love Girl Scouts
“If they’ve known me since kindergarten when I joined, I would say remember how shy I was? I’ve changed so much because of [Girl Scouts], in a good way! Now when I meet new people, instead of hiding behind something, I go out and tell them my name. Shake their hand.” Yvee – Girl Scout Junior
“Girl Scouts teaches me how to be a better person. I think all girls should be here. Girl Scouts is a really good way to connect with other girls. Your dreams could always come true and that’s what the Girl Scouts are all about. Making your dreams come true.” Harper – Girl Scout Brownie
“It’s fun because you learn a lot of things that are important to learn like how to take care of yourself if you get lost or how to put up a tent or even how to shoot archery.” Rose – Girl Scout Brownie
A Legacy of Empowerment and Learning
Founded more than a century ago, Girl Scouts is more than just an after-school activity. It’s a time-honored tradition dedicated to empowering girls with the skills they need to thrive in every aspect of their lives. As parents ponder the best ways to engage their daughters this school year, Girl Scouts stands out as a valuable addition to her routine. Here’s why:
- Development of Life Skills: Girl Scouts offers a comprehensive program designed to nurture every aspect of a girl’s development. Through badges and hands-on projects, girls get to take the lead on what interests them and what they want to focus on. Subjects can range from STEM and entrepreneurship to the arts and environmental stewardship. These activities not only cultivate practical skills, but also instill a sense of accomplishment, individuality, and self-confidence.
- Community and Friendship: The Girl Scout experience is more than just earning badges. It’s about building friendships that last a lifetime and becoming part of a supportive community. This level of acceptance and security gives girls the confidence to be themselves, unapologetically. It’s what makes them feel safe enough to try new things and cheer each other on. It’s the support that can help get them up on tough mornings, raise their hand in class, and even climb to the top of a mountain.
- Flexible Participation: Girl Scouts offers flexibility to accommodate busy family routines. Whether your daughter participates in a troop with weekly meetings or takes on the adventure solo as a Juliette, Girl Scouts can fit seamlessly into their existing schedule. However your girl chooses to participate, she can still create her own one-of-a-kind Girl Scout journey by taking part in a range of activities, like earning badges and patches, traveling, going to camp, and participating in the largest girl-led entrepreneurial program in the world.
- Leadership and Confidence Building: At the heart of Girl Scouts is a commitment to fostering leadership. From organizing take action projects to leading troop meetings, girls are given numerous opportunities to step up and take charge. These hands-on experiences help build confidence and leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
- Encouraging Diversity and Inclusion: Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons is committed to inclusivity and celebrates diversity. The organization embraces girls from all backgrounds and encourages them to learn from and appreciate each other’s differences. This inclusive environment helps young girls develop a broader perspective and greater appreciation for the world around them.
Making the Choice
As parents look for ways to enhance their children’s educational and personal growth this back-to-school season, Girl Scouts is the obvious place to start. It’s an opportunity to provide your daughter with a well-rounded experience that combines education, fun, and service. By joining Girl Scouts, she will not only gain valuable skills and experiences, but also become part of a tradition that has been shaping confident, compassionate leaders for more than a century.
It’s more than just an activity – it’s a chance to be part of a movement dedicated to empowering girls and making a difference. Embrace the back-to-school season with Girl Scouts and watch your daughter grow into the confident, capable leader she’s destined to be.
