August has come to the Sioux Falls Area! It seems like summer is just flying by, and the new school year is fast approaching. Make the most of the last weeks of summer with some of the amazing events and attractions coming to the Sioux Falls Area this month. Even with the start of school, there is still so much going on in the Sioux Empire during the last half of August. The weather is perfect for some area lake swimming, late summer camping, and hiking.

August in the Sioux Falls Area
Music
If you are looking for a date night or girls’ night out, then mark your calendars for August 16th. Girl Named Tom will be performing at the Washington Pavilion that evening.
The 11th Annual Downtown Riverfest is on August 17th. Enjoy live music, activities, vendors, and more. In the activity tent, starting in the late afternoon, you can find kids’ activities like Phil Baker Music, the 605 Magic Art Bus, the Zoo Mobile, and SD Arial and Arts. Enjoy the start with your family, and come back out for a date night!
Phil Baker will be at the Levitt on August 3rd at 10:30 am for their children’s show. You will also be able to find ‘hood at the Levitt that morning! We are proud to be the Concert Sponsor for the August 3rd show.
The Levitt is going strong all August long! Make sure to check out their full schedule to see who is all playing on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Nights.
Outdoor
The Outdoor Campus’s Annual Hunting and Gear Giveaway is on August 10th this year, starting at 10 am. Make sure to arrive on time for this generous event. The Outdoor Campus gives away outdoor gear for free on this day in order to help give access to the outdoors.
Speaking of the Outdoor Campus, they are hosting a Super Saturday Archery on August 10th as well! This event is free to attend to the public, and is open-house style (no registration is required).
The Sioux Falls Marathon is on August 25th this year. You can run the full marathon, a half, or a 5k at this race. A portion of the proceeds of this race are donated to the Sanford Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to bless children here in the Sioux Empire.
Family Fun
The Sioux Empire Fair is happening August 2nd-10th! Get ready for days filled with family fun, activities, fair food, vendors, live music, and more. There is so much do see and do at the Sioux Empire Fair.
The August Eastbank Block party is August 5th at the boardwalk of 8th and Railroad Center.
Get ready for a great family event, Discover Aviation Day on August 7th, sponsored by Areostart. This FREE event is packed full of family fun, engaging learning, and more.
The Heartland County Corn Maze is to opening up it’s 25th year on August 9th! Get some fall-fun in a bit earlier this year!
Bugapalooza is at the Butterfly House and Aquarieam on August 10th! This FREE event lets you learn all about the different bugs and critters that are in our world.
The Turner County Fair is a favorite in the Sioux Falls Area! The Turner County Fair in Parker is from August 12th-15th this year. For more fair fun, check out our listing of area county fairs!
Farmers Markets
There are plenty of Farmers Markets in the Sioux Falls Area in August andthe produce will be at it’s peak this month. Check out some of the area farmer’s markets below:
Falls Park Farmers Market
Every Saturday in July you can enjoy a farmers market at Falls Park. They run from 8 am to 1 pm.
At Lake Lorraine
There is a Farmers Market at Lake Lorraine every Thursday evening from 4 pm to 7 pm. The farmers market is in the parking lot near Hobby Lobby.
At Sanford Wellness Center
New this year is a Farmers Market at the Sanford Wellness Center. They host a farmers market at the Oxbow Wellness Center location from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday nights. This farmers market also features free outdoor fitness classes!
Saturdays at the Park in Tea
Also new this year is Tea’s Saturday’s in the Park. Every 3rd Saturday of the month from July-October they will be hosting a farmers market with vendors, live music, kids activities, and more at the Tea City Park. The August event is on the 17th.
Brandon Farmers Market
The Brandon Farmers Market happens every Saturday morning from 9 am to 1:30 pm. This farmers market is in the Lippert Parking lot.
