Question: How do I help my kids have better manners?

Manners classes at Miss Jaspers’ House start by remembering to smile. It may seem basic, but think about the contrast between smiling and complaining. Smiling makes it easier to stay positive, face challenges, and disagree respectfully. Study, model, and teach good behaviors. Here are some tips.

•Patience – delay a reaction, listen first, ask questions, offer a hug before a lecture

•Language – choose your words carefully, learn quality vocabulary, avoid slang and slander

•Emotional Intelligence – lead with empathy, own your mistakes, problem solve

•Respect –say, “OK!” when asked to do something, let others go first, keep unkind thoughts to yourself

AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURES teaches manners to elementary students through real-life experiences. Share the journey!

Miss Jaspers’ House is an environment designed to draw out and develop creative and critical thinking, wonder and discovery, goal setting, problem solving, manners and virtue, all through practice and real life experiences. Children generate ideas, construct projects, plan outings, and take ownership of their experiences while working with a team. When we are able to view who we are, there is no limit to who we can become.
