There’s just something about a summer evening at The Birdcage. The crack of the bat, cheering fans, ballpark snacks, and kids laughing make a Sioux Falls Canaries game one of our favorite family outings. Whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth, a little planning can help you make the most of your night at the ballpark.

If you have kids in your family who can’t seem to get enough of baseball, make sure to check out the birthday packages offered by the Canaries and the kids’ camps they host during the summer.

Here are seven things to know before you go to a game:

1. Stop by Guest Services as Soon as You Arrive

Want your child (or even yourself!) to race around the field as ketchup, mustard, or another crowd-favorite mascot during an inning break? Head to Guest Services right after you enter the stadium to see if any crowd participation spots are still available. These fill up quickly, so the earlier you ask, the better your chances!

2. Don’t Skip the Kids Zone

Need a break from sitting in the stands? The Kids Zone is a huge hit with little fans. It includes a playground and bounce houses where kids can burn off some energy before heading back to watch the game.

Pro Tip: Arriving at the game early gives you plenty of time to hit up the Kids Zone and grab some food and drinks before the game starts.

3. Diaper Bags Are Welcome

Bringing a baby or toddler? Good news: diaper bags are allowed inside the stadium. Just be prepared for security to search them before you enter. No food or drinks are allowed in from outside of The Birdcage (they understand things like puffs for your baby, though!).

4. Meet Cagey & Peep

No need to hunt them down; Cagey and Peep make their way throughout the stadium during the game, stopping for plenty of high-fives, hugs, and photos with fans. If you’re watching the game from a suite, they’ll even stop by to say hello! They make sure to visit every suite. Speaking of suites, they can be a surprisingly affordable option for larger families, groups, or celebrations.

5. Check the Promotions Schedule Before You Go

Every game has its own fun! From Fireworks Fridays to Military Appreciation Night, giveaways, theme nights, and special promotions make each visit unique. Be sure to see what’s happening before you pick your game. The Daily Deals for the 2026 Season include things like Waggin’ Wednesdays (bring your dog!) and Family Fun Day Sundays. During Sunday games, you get to even throw a ball around on the field before the game starts!

6. Bring a Glove

Bring a glove! You never know if a foul ball will head your way; bring a glove to catch it in case it does. The field area on the left side of the field is also a popular spot during the game where kids can have space to run and see if they can catch a foul ball. So if you find you have little ones who don’t want to stay seated, no worries! Take them over to the side field to run around. Not only can you still watch the game from there, but there is also a concession stand right there!

7. Arrive a Little Early

Getting there 20–30 minutes before first pitch gives you time to park, grab your favorite ballpark snacks, visit the Kids Zone, sign up for crowd participation, and settle into your seats before the game begins.

Have fun cheering on our hometown Canaries!
