Happy New Year and 2026 from all of us here at The ‘hood Magazine! January can feel like a fresh start for many of us. It’s a great time to reflect, work on new goals, and prioritize what’s important in the coming year.

It also means another month of fun things ahead for the Sioux Falls Area! Below are just some of the great events and activities to look forward to this month in Sioux Falls.

JANUARY IN THE SIOUX FALLS AREA
DOWNTOWN SIOUX FALLS BURGER BATTLE
All month long, you can enjoy the DTSF Burger Battle. Enjoy some time downtown while getting some fantastic food. Make sure to vote for your favorite burgers!
TAKE IN A GAME
With the weather being a bit colder, it’s a great time to take in a game! Sioux Falls has both the Sioux Falls Stampede (Hockey) and the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Basketball), with games to take in during the month of January. This month, you can catch the Stampede the Omaha Lancers on January 3rd!
For the basketball fans, support the Force on January 11th when they play Rip City Remix. This night it’s their Faith and Family night, supporting Tre Ministries.

GET OUTSIDE
Spending time outside in the winter can still be enjoyable! Check out the free classes and open houses offered by the Outdoor Campus or some of the hiking available at area State Parks. Many local and area parks offer free events and classes during the month of January. For all the events offered by the SD Game, Fish, and Parks, click here. Getting natural light and exercise can greatly improve your mood and help combat the winter blues.
Since it is the New Year this month, there are several parks nearby that are hosting “First Day Hikes.” Check out the first-day hike at Good Earth State Park.
If you like running, join the Sioux Falls Parks and Rec for their Frosty Fun Run on January 3rd.
Great Bear Ski Valley is open for the season! They have fun events planned all season long. Check out their Lazer Tubing Events scheduled for January 10th and 24th this month.
TAKE IN THE ARTS
Enjoy the arts this January! Sioux Falls has a thriving arts community that is such a gift for the area.
Mrs. Doubtfire the Musical will be at the Washington Pavilion this month, starting on January 30th and running through February 1st.
Check out the new, extended Falls Park Farmers’ Market this year! They moved inside for the colder months, at Mosic Downtown. On January 24th, enjoy both the market and music from CommonGround.
A local Sioux Falls performing arts group will be bringing their original radio-hour style show to the stage at The Orpheum downtown on January 23rd. Check out the Midtown Coffee Radio Hour.
FOR THE KIDS
The Toughest Show on Wheels is coming to the Denny Sanford Premier Center! January 23rd and 24th, enjoy the Toughest Monster Truck Tour. Kids and adults will love this action-packed show. To get tickets and more information, go online here!
The Washington Pavilion hosts First Free Friday every month. This month, Frist Free Friday will be on January 2rd.
A fun event every winter that is hosted by Sioux Falls Parks and Rec is the Kids Cardboard Sled “I-Kid-A-Rod.” Kids bring their own cardboard creations to Morningside Park for a fun-filled competition.
The Washington Pavilion is teaming up with the Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium for their Wild About Science series. On January 17th, you can learn all about Turtles and Tortoises.
Sioux Falls Parks and Rec is holding its Annual Winter Kids Day on January 10th this year. Head over to Tuthill Park for some free frosty fun!
