Ingredients
- 1 box puff pastry (thawed according to package directions)
- 1 can apple pie filling (We used a 20 oz can)
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon water
Optional glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A small pinch of salt
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (depending on desired consistency)
Items Needed
You don’t need much to make these tasty apple turnovers! A fork and a knife are two of the main these you will use.
You will need a sheet pan to bake this on, and we LOVE a jelly roll pan. Having that slight edge not only makes baking less stressful (since nothing is going to slide off), but it is so handy for breads, pizzas, icing, and we even use them for things like kinetic sand play time!
A rolling pin is needed to stretch out your dough in a nice and even matter. A simple wood one is always a great way to go. I prefer a french rolling pin.
A pasty brush is something you can go without in this recipe. Simply use your fingers for the egg wash or a spoon. But, it is handy to have!

Instructions
- Prep the pastry:
Thaw your puff pastry according to the directions on the box. Preheat your oven to 400°F. - Roll and cut:
Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out both sheets of puff pastry. Cut into even squares—about eight total. - Add the filling:
Spoon a small amount of apple pie filling onto one corner of each square, leaving an edge for sealing. - Seal the turnovers:
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush it along the edges opposite the filling. Fold each square over to form a triangle and press the edges together. Use a fork to crimp the sides, sealing the filling inside. - Vent and bake:
Cut three small slits in the top of each turnover to let steam escape. Place them on an ungreased baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining egg wash.
Bake for 16–20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed. - Cool and glaze:
Allow turnovers to cool until warm (not hot). While they cool, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla, salt, and milk to make your glaze.
Tip: Place the turnovers on a cooling rack set over the baking pan, then drizzle the glaze over the top so the pan catches any extra.
