Dates for 2026
Fall schedules are filling up fast, but if your child is still looking for a sport or activity this season, you haven’t missed your chance! From golf and hockey to basketball and Girl Scouts, there are still local opportunities to get kids moving, learning and making new friends this fall.
Here are five Sioux Falls Area activities to check out:
1. First Tee – South Dakota
If your child has ever wanted to try golf, fall is a great time to give it a shot! First Tee–South Dakota’s Sioux Falls programs at Elmwood Golf Course and Kuehn Park are designed to teach golf skills while also incorporating character development, confidence, goal-setting and other life skills.
Fall registration is currently open, with programming at Kuehn Park beginning in September and continuing into October. Programs are divided by age, with opportunities for elementary-aged kids through high school.
Ages: 5 through high school
Fall Registration: Now Open

2. Big Sioux Youth Basketball
It may still feel like football and soccer season, but basketball registration is already underway! Big Sioux Youth Basketball offers recreational basketball for area boys and girls, giving kids a chance to learn the fundamentals, develop their skills and have fun playing with a team.
The league is a popular option for families in the Sioux Falls, Harrisburg, Tea, and surrounding communities, so if basketball is on your child’s fall/winter wish list, now is the time to get registered.
Registration Deadline: September 19
Season: Begins later this fall
3. Tea Parks & Recreation Youth Basketball
Have a little basketball player at home? Tea Parks & Recreation offers a youth basketball program specifically for kindergarten and first-grade boys and girls. The program is designed to introduce younger players to the game through short practices, drills and fun game experiences.
It’s a great choice for kids who are brand new to basketball and aren’t quite ready for a more competitive league.
Ages/Grades: Kindergarten and 1st grade
Registration Deadline: September 21st
4. Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons
Not every after-school activity needs to be a sport! Girl Scouts gives kids opportunities to make friends, try new things, explore their interests, build leadership skills and get involved in their community.
Girl Scouts Dakota Horizons serves girls throughout the Sioux Falls area, and girls can join throughout the year, and fall is a popular time for new groups to kick-off. Whether your child wants the traditional troop experience or would rather participate more independently, there are options to fit different schedules and interests.
Ages: Kindergarten through 12th grade
Registration: Open year-round

5. Sioux Falls Youth Hockey – City Leagues
Ready to hit the ice? Sioux Falls Youth Hockey has several City League options for kids who want to play hockey in a non-travel, in-house setting. For the 2026-27 season, City League options include Mite, Junior, Intermediate and Advanced divisions, depending on age.
The City League registration deadline is September 21, so there is still time to get your skater signed up!
There are also programs for younger players, including Mini-Atoms and Atom Short Session programs, with separate registration and deadlines.
City League Registration Deadline: September 21
Ages: Varies by league
