McDonald’s is renowned not only for its famous golden arches and delicious menu but also for its commitment to supporting local students in their pursuit of higher education. Through the Archways to Opportunity program, the Hart2Hart McDonald’s franchise has become a cornerstone in the community, providing scholarships and tuition assistance to help students overcome financial barriers and achieve their academic aspirations.

A Commitment to Education

Archways to Opportunity is a national initiative by McDonald’s that provides a range of educational benefits for employees, including tuition assistance, a high school diploma program, and resources for career advancement. Locally, Hart2Hart McDonald’s, with its locations spanning Eastern South Dakota and Southwest Minnesota, has consistently played a pivotal role in furthering the educational journeys of its employees. The franchise has awarded substantial scholarships each year, making higher education more accessible for deserving students.

Scholarship Contributions

In 2024, Hart2Hart McDonald’s awarded $45,000 in scholarships to 28 students, underscoring their ongoing commitment to education. This year, the franchise is continuing its investment in the future of its crew members, offering vital financial support to help students pursue their academic goals.

Godliva Niyubuntu, Area Operations Supervisor, shared, “Thanks to McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity, I was able to pursue my education without the stress of financial strain. The support I received allowed me to balance work and school, enabling me to build both my career and my future. McDonald’s is more than just a job; it’s a place that truly invests in its employees’ success.”

These scholarships are designed to benefit students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring that financial obstacles do not impede their dreams of higher education. For many recipients, McDonald’s support has been instrumental in allowing them to focus on their studies, knowing that their tuition costs are being covered.

The Power of Flexibility

One of the standout features of the Archways to Opportunity program is its flexibility. Employees working an average of just 15 hours per week can qualify for tuition assistance in as little as 90 days. This makes the program highly accessible to high school and college students who are working part-time at McDonald’s, providing them with valuable work experience while helping them further their education.

Hannah Jenkins, General Manager of the Cliff Avenue McDonald’s in Sioux Falls, reflected on her experience: “McDonald’s Archways to Opportunity opened the door for me to continue my education while working. The process was seamless, and the flexibility of online learning allowed me to balance both my career and studies. Now, as a graduate, I can confidently recommend the program—it’s not just about tuition assistance, but about creating new opportunities.”

Opportunities for Future Students

Hart2Hart McDonald’s continues to prioritize community engagement, and the Archways to Opportunity program remains a vital resource for students eager to further their education. The combination of scholarships and tuition assistance offers a pathway for employees to earn financial support for their education while maintaining a flexible work schedule.

Jordan Hartshorn, Franchise Owner/Operator of Hart2Hart McDonald’s, stated, “At Hart2Hart McDonald’s, we believe in investing in our employees’ futures. Education is a powerful tool, and through Archways to Opportunity, we’re proud to help our team members reach their goals. Whether it’s tuition assistance, career advancement, or skill development, we strive to provide opportunities that support success both inside and outside of McDonald’s.”Hart2Hart McDonald’s is hosting a graduation celebration for Hannah, Godliva, Danny, and others on Friday, April 4, at 10:00 am at the Cliff Avenue restaurant.
